Vic police investigate poodle decapitation

A poodle has been decapitated and dumped in a Melbourne street.

Police are calling for witnesses, and the dog's owner, to come forward.

The dog's body was found on a nature strip in suburban Clayton South, at the intersection of Main and Haughton Roads, around 11am on March 27.

"Following an autopsy, it was determined the dog had likely been decapitated by a person and not as a result of the animal's actions," a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

"Police and council are also trying to track down the owner of the female poodle, which is apricot in colour and is estimated to be around 2-years-old."

The poodle was not wearing a collar but had a small red and white bow on her right ear. The dog was microchipped however this was damaged and unreadable.

Police say no one has reported a missing dog matching this description.
