Driver rescued after two garbage trucks collide on NSW Central Coast Highway

All lanes have reopened on the Central Coast Highway in Kariong following a crash between two garbage trucks this afternoon, which brought traffic to a standstill.

Emergency services responded to the crash near The Avenue, rescuing a male truck driver who had become trapped. 

He was taken to Gosford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries in a stable condition. 

The driver of the other truck was not seriously injured. 

At the same time, emergency services also responded to a separate incident 50m down the highway, where they found a Mitsubishi ute on fire.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze before locating a body inside the vehicle.

A crime scene has been established and initial investigations indicate the death is not suspicious. 

Motorists are advised to take extra care on the roads as crews clear debris from the crash from the roadways.

Earlier, two eastbound lanes and three westbound lanes had been closed at Curringa Road. 

Traffic is still heavy in both directions, especially westbound, which is slow back to West Gosford.

Traffic on Manns Road and Brisbane Water Drive is also heavy.
