Driver on the run after two women killed, third injured in Darwin hit-and-run

A Northern Territory driver remains on the run after allegedly hitting and killing two women on a Darwin road in the early hours of this morning.

A third woman was also struck by the car at around 1.30am, on Trower Road in Brinkin, near Casuarina Beach.

The two women, aged 62 and 47, were pronounced dead at the scene while the third injured woman was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Northern Watch Commander Tim Healey told the NT News the driver involved in the crash fled the scene.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the crash and police are urging any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

The number of lives lost on NT roads has now risen to 56, compared to 26 at the same time last year.
