Two Darwin High school students were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital following a brutal school brawl.

A student, who wished to remain anonymous, contacted 9NEWS and claimed the fight began after a dispute between two students escalated and resulted in the vicious bashing.

Darwin High School's Principal, Jill Hazeldine, confirmed the brawl took place during lunchtime when a teenager from another school came onto the grounds and confronted the student in front of plenty of witnesses.

Two other students were forced to step in following the initial punch.

NT Police and the students' families were immediately called and medical attention sought, with the two students taken to hospital.

A police spokesperson confirmed the assault was reported and enquiries are continuing.

Ms Hazeldine said in a statement to 9News, "This type of behaviour is not acceptable and the school will continue to work with the students and their families to manage this behaviour, taking the necessary appropriate action to ensure the safety of all students and staff at Darwin High School is maintained."
