Two men in custody after 'shooting man, stealing car' in Queensland

Two men are in custody after allegedly shooting the driver of a car before stealing the vehicle and leading police on a chase through Queensland's Western Downs region.

Two men allegedly walked up to a Mitsubishi Triton in Dalby at 8.30am where an altercation took place between the pair and the two people inside the car.

It ended with the male driver of the Mitsubishi being shot.

He remains in hospital but was not transported by an ambulance.

Police said the two groups were not known to each other.

The two men then stole the Mitsubishi Triton and fled towards Toowoomba.

"The vehicle was tracked for some time along the Warrego Highway, before the successful deployment of a tyre deflation device near Charlton," police said.

But after the car's tyres were spiked, the vehicle kept driving for "some distance" before crashing into a motorbike at an intersection in South Toowoomba.

The motorbike rider was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police took the two men into custody almost two hours after the initial altercation.

Officers also allegedly found two guns in the car.

Investigations are continuing.
