Turnbull having all-party party at Lodge

Malcolm Turnbull is opening the doors of his new home in Canberra to MPs and senators from all parties for a "family day".

The prime minister said he's expecting some 300 guests to the newly-renovated Lodge on Sunday afternoon, with children also attending, including his grandson Jack.

"Members of parliament ... and the senators are volunteers, their families are conscripts and I think it's great to have everyone there from all parties for a family day at the beginning of the parliamentary year," Mr Turnbull told ABC television on Sunday.
