Turnbull demands answers on Ruszczyk killing

Malcolm Turnbull says Australia wants answers on how an Australian woman in her pyjamas was shot dead by police in the US.

As Sydneysiders gather to pay tribute to Justine Ruszczyk, the prime minister said Australia's consul-general is supporting the family.

"It is inexplicable. Our hearts go out to her family," he told the Nine Network on Wednesday.

"How can a woman out in the street in her pyjamas seeking assistance from the police be shot like that? It is a shocking killing."

Ms Ruszczyk was fatally shot in the stomach by Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor on Saturday night
