'Trevor' the tiger shark filmed near swimmers at Perth beach

A 2.5 metre tiger shark, known by locals as Trevor, has been filmed making an appearance on New Year's Eve near revellers swimming at Perth's Mullaloo Beach.

Aerial footage captured by drone operator Curtis Ramsay shows the shark swimming just metres from the foreshore as beachgoers appeared oblivious.

"It still amazes me that something this big (2.5m), can be this close, to this many people and not one single person had the slightest clue that he was there," Ramsay wrote in a post on Facebook.

Although not confirmed, the large tiger shark is believed to be the same one which was often spotted by beachgoers at Mullaloo Beach last summer.

The beach was closed twice last January after sightings of the shark swimming extremely close to the shoreline.

In addition to the New Year's Eve sighting, another drone operator also captured footage of the shark a few weeks ago in December at the same beach.

Trevor's frequent visits near the Perth beach have made the shark somewhat of a local celebrity, even if slightly unnerving one.

However, Ramsay told 9news.com.au he saw the same shark almost daily and it did not appear to be aggressive.

"He could have on any number of occasions attacked or got aggressive, but so far nothing of the sort," Ramsay said.

"He is happy just cruising along, checking out what is causing the splashing along the shoreline, once he's identified it as a swimmer, he's once again off on his way to hunt more fish."

Local Sarah was at Mullaloo Beach on New Year's Eve and no-one noticed Trevor in the water.

"I was at the beach last night and was not aware that we had a rather large tiger shark right in front of us," she told 9news.com.au.
