Three teenagers arrested over alleged 'buffer riding' on Sydney trains

Three teenagers have been arrested over alleged dangerous incidents of "buffer riding" on Sydney trains.

Five teenagers were captured on CCTV clinging to the rear of a train crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge on Sunday and again yesterday, police say.

Another boy, aged 14, was seen buffer riding on a tram on George Street in the CBD.

He fell from the tram but was not injured.

The three teenage boys, two aged 14 and one 13-year-old, fled the tram into World Square before police caught up with them.

Two stopped when directed while the second 14-year-old was arrested in Haymarket.

Police also allegedly found two screwdrivers when searching one of the boys.

The two 14-year-olds received youth cautions for buffer riding and possession of the screwdrivers.

The third boy, 13, was issued a warning under the Young Offenders Act.

Police are looking to speak to another two teenagers as part of an investigation into buffer riding in Sydney.

Transport for NSW slammed the dangerous trend of filming buffer riding after footage emerged on social media of other teenagers riding the outside of trains in Sydney.

The same group was seen engaging in similar dangerous antics at Meadowbank in north-west Sydney.

Transport boss John Murray said this type of behaviour could lead to certain death.

"Sadly this person's on the fast track to death or traumatic injury on the railway," he told 9News.

"This video is nothing short of sickening for thousands of railway workers who spend their days trying to deliver a safe and reliable network."
