'Get the ----!': Hero tradie makes citizen arrest after phone alert

A Mackay tradie has pulled off an incredible daylight citizen's arrest, rushing home from work to confront an 18-year-old home invader.

Darcy McInnes was on a nearby job site when his phone alerted him to movement on his home security cameras.

The moment he saw the masked thug on camera, he leapt into action, rushing back home, with his workmate hot on his heels.

Incredible security footage shows the offender running across Darcy's lawn after jumping the side fence to try and escape.

"Front door Dave, front door! Get the ----!" Darcy, armed with a large hunting knife, can be heard yelling to his mate from the back porch.

Darcy told Today the adrenaline just kicked in and he didn't know what he was rushing home to or whether the man would be armed.

"No one's stealing my stuff mate, I work pretty hard for it," Darcy told Today.

He said the man was fast, but he managed to chase him down the road and thanks to the help from his mate, had the crook pinned down in no time.

"I got on top of him and he pretty much just went to water," he said.

"There were a few swear words in there, asking him 'why are you in my house?', but he's lucky he got out of my yard and in public."

Darcy said he had 15 years of footy and Muay Thai to thank for the gumption he had to chase the masked man down, but as a father of two - he is not putting up with this behaviour in his neighbourhood.

"What's even worse, I think he's already out again so the magistrates court needs to pick their act up here because everyone's had a gutful of it," he said.

"They just get a slap on the wrist, go out and then they do the same thing."
