With children preparing to go back to school for the new year, parents are becoming more concerned with the amount of sugar in the food canteens provide.

Data gathered by My Foodie Box found over a third of 1000 families surveyed want a report card detailing the nutritional value of lunches provided at school, while 53 per cent would support national government funding of a healthy school lunch program.

"Because the reality is that there's still too many junk food options in school canteens," My Foodie Box CEO, Mai White told Today.

Mai said 73 per cent of those surveyed considered a healthy and nutritious lunch box to be an essential part of a child's progress at school and many were fed up with what's available to them currently.

The other option is parents actually preparing a lunch box for their children, but with cost of living and time pressures, many struggle to ensure the contents are nutritious and varied.

"That's why we decided to create a system where people won't have to even think about making lunchboxes for their kids anymore," Mai said.
