Today host Karl Stefanovic found himself in the back of a NSW Police van this morning, as he was "arrested" for losing the new recruit fitness challenge.

Both he, and co-host Ally Langdon, underwent a series of fitness challenges including a vertical jump test, pushups, a hand grip test, and an agility test.

It came weeks after Langdon said she thought "Sergeant Langdon" had a ring to it.

The two hosts were neck-and-neck until the hand-grip test; here, Stefanovic scored 57, while Langdon scored "a tidy" 40. However, Stefanovic may have lost marks after letting out a loud "woo", prompting Detective Chief Inspector Dean Lindley to note "very excitable" on his score-card.

After the break Langdon was revealed the winner; she scored 14 seconds in the agility test compared to Stefanovic's "30 something".

A less excited Stefanovic sat hooded in the back seat of a police car.

Stefanovic was taken into custody.

Langdon slapped the back of the car and said to the officers "take him away boys".

Stefanovic peered out of the window as the sirens wailed and yelled "I didn't do it - it wasn't me".

The Today host declared his innocence as he drove away.

When the camera cut to Today Extra host David Campbell he said he wasn't surprised at the "arrest".

"On behalf of Channel Nine, we all knew this day would come," he said jokingly.

"We didn't know what it would be."
