Today newsreader Jayne Azzopardi ruffled some feathers this week when she suggested tinned smoked oysters were a tasty item to serve at your next family BBQ.

But the idea of seafood out of a can divided Jayne's co-hosts, so this morning she brought the controversial delicacy, along with a box of Jatz crackers, in for their breakfast.

"I conducted a poll, a very scientific poll on Instagram and it seems half of you are with me and half of you are with Karl and Sarah," Jayne told Today viewers.

"And I suspect that most of you in the no column have never actually tried it, so ignore the smell, they don't smell the greatest - but I promise you, this will be a taste sensation."

Fill-in sport presenter Michael Atkinson has enjoyed the snack before and was all on board, munching on one before his next segment.

And surprisingly, Sarah was also able to be swayed after she reluctantly took a bite out of one, too.

"It's like a 1980s cocktail party, that's what it feels like," Sarah said.

Jayne argued with cost-of-living pressures, at $3.60 a tin the smoked oysters were the way to go for social gatherings or to have on a weekend with a glass of wine.

However, Karlos was thankful he had a bin close by because that's exactly where he spat his once the flavour hit his mouth.

"I'm going to tell you, I don't care how bad the cost of living crunch is, I ain't having tinned oysters," he said.

"That is awful, disgusting, it's like eating a Dunlop Volley."
