Tim McGraw reveals how family saved his life
Tim McGraw is one of the most famous country music artists in the world. He’s played sold out stadiums, won multiple Grammy Awards and starred in Hollywood movies. But, in an interview with Today, he revealed he had to give up his partying ways... or risk losing his family.
“There was a point in my life where I thought, I’ve been given so many opportunities and so many chances and such a great life – and I’m not taking advantage of it. I thought taking care of my health was the first place to start,” he said.
“I’m like the uncool guy in country music: I’ve opened a gym and I’m writing a history book!”

Right before he took to the stage as one of the headline acts for the Country Music Association Festival in Nashville – the American version of our Tamworth Country Music Festival – he sat down with me for an exclusive interview.
He’s full of amazing yarns from his years on the road and lots of fatherly advice.
Within minutes of us chatting (while we were waiting for the camera crew to get their shots right) he had ascertained that we had very similar childhoods, our mothers did the lion’s share while we were young and our fathers were absent. “My whole life I’ve been surrounded by strong women,” he said.
He talked about rekindling his relationship with his father, how it impacted the sort of father he wanted to be and the proof is in the pudding. He’s the father of three daughters with his wife, country music queen, Faith Hill.

“We’ve always tried to keep our girls out of the social media world. They’re getting more into it now, but they still stay pretty private,” he said.
“We didn’t want to impress our lives onto them. We wanted them to carve out their own lives.”
Tim McGraw is due to touch down in Australia in September. He’ll headline the inaugural C2C Australia festival in Sydney and Brisbane and play his own headline shows in the Hunter Valley and Melbourne. He’ll also perform at the 21st annual Deni Ute Muster.
