The Rock dives into his transformation for live-action Moana

The 2016 Disney animated feature film Moana was a smash hit and now the live-action remake is here to get fans excited.
Young Australian actress, Catherine Laga’aia debuts in the title role and she is joined by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who returns to his role of Maui the demigod.
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson sits down with Today to chat about his new live-action film, Moana. Today
Today’s Renee Bargh sat down with the Hollywood action star to discuss how he felt about bringing the colourful character back to life for a whole new legion of fans.
“I’ve had the privilege of playing Maui twice - I think the challenge was I realised it immediately… the very first take, when the director said cut, there was a big exhale from me - I knew going in there was a responsibility of putting culture on that screen and on top of that Maui is inspired by my grandfather,” he said.
The Rock dons Maui’s signature ti leaf skirt, bone necklace, tattoos and fishhook, or Manaiakalani for the live-action film, but it was his luscious locks which had the smooth-headed star really excited.
“That’s part of the character, his hair is part of his superpower… just like his tattoos and I had so much fun reading the memes about my hair… it was the best,” he laughed.
Disney’s live-action Moana is in cinemas on July 8 and you can watch Renee’s full interview with the stars in the video above.
We’d love to hear from you
