Ted Lasso season four is officially here, and while Jason Sudeikis and the crew couldn’t fit a trip Down Under into the press tour, we may have gotten the next best thing.

With the Lord Dudley Hotel in Woollahra transformed into the Crown & Anchor from the show, Australia was only missing one key element – our very own Ted. Thankfully, the team at Today knew exactly what to do, and there was only one man for the job.

A pretty tough game of Spot The Difference.  Nine

Today’s social media manager, Connor, is essentially the spitting image of Ted Lasso. With a bit of help from hair and makeup, it honestly became difficult to spot the difference.

With hair and makeup complete, and the help of a pair of classic camel-coloured chinos, a collared shirt and a pale blue skivvy, Ted Lasso had officially arrived in Australia.

And in the name of the game, Connor got into the spirit. What wasn’t entirely expected, though, was the fact that some members of the public were genuinely convinced that Connor from Today was, in fact, Jason Sudeikis from Ted Lasso.

Heading down to Woollahra to visit Ted’s local, Connor walked down the street with passers-by whipping out their phones to capture a shot of the “Hollywood star” walking Sydney’s streets.

“Is that actually him?” A few people asked.

No, it was not. But the fact that people believed it made the bit absolutely worth the effort.

“We’re going to the studio,” Connor said after his trip to the pub.

“The joke’s over now. I’m a behind-the-scenes guy; I do social media. I’m not on camera.”

But despite the protesting, the spirit of Ted appeared to possess him when Connor sat down on the Today Extra couch to chat with Sylvia Jeffreys and David Campbell.

People on the street were genuinely confused, and we don’t blame them.  Nine

“It’s so nice to be here in Australia! I’ve been doing the tour of your wonderful city of Sydney. I saw Oprah’s house on the harbour. It’s the fanciest house; that’s the fanciest house I’ve ever seen, look at all the points and the curls,” Ted said. Or Connor said. Honestly, even we’re getting confused at this point.
