Family arguments finally settled with 'official' rules of Spotto revealed

Family road trips can be long and boring and that's where car games can save the day.

Some families like to have singalongs with the radio, while others like to try there hand at eye spy, or its variant "Spotto".

Spotto is a relatively simple game that involves yelling out "Spotto!" whenever you see a yellow car on the road during the drive.

It's fun for all ages and keeps you alert and entertained for hours - until an argument starts about the rules.

So to end any confusion about whether buses count and how yellow a yellow car has to be to score a point, one Aussie family created an official rule book on the game of Spotto.

Richard Czeiger and Alexandra Mattinson were playing with their daughters on a recent drive and when an argument started, Alexandra made a final ruling based off the International Spotto Federation's guidelines.

While this organisation doesn't actually exist, when Richard and Alexandra got home they did in fact - sit down and map out the rules to end any future arguments once and for all.

"Just so we're all on the same page, what are the three most important rules of Spotto," Karl and Sarah asked the couple.

"Probably that you need to have a vehicle that's got at least 50 per cent yellow on it - no racing stripes," Alexandra said.

"It's got to be driving, it can't be a parked car - that one has resulted in lots of arguments with the kids.

"And perhaps most important of all, the driver's verdict is final."
