'I'll give you a call after': Old mates Richard Wilkins and Sir Bob Geldof catch up

He's the man with a little black book of celebrity contacts that would make anyone enviable.

So it was no surprise when one of the biggest rock legends in music history was more interested in what Nine entertainment editor Richard Wilkins was up to, instead of speaking about his own accomplishments.

The Boomtown Rats frontman, activist and Band Aid creator Sir Bob Geldof was in Australia this week to launch his new independent radio station Disrupt Radio.

But while Today Extra hosts Sylvia Jeffreys and Tim Davies were keen to hear about his career accomplishments and how he got so many great music acts together for Live Aid, Geldof couldn't help but take the opportunity to catch up with his old mate Wilkins.

"Lovely to see you, you're looking well I have to say," Wilkins told his guest.

Then, after casually mentioning his recent and upcoming gigs with The Boomtown Cats, Geldof wanted to steer back to having a chinwag with his friend.

"How are you things with you?" Geldof asked.

"I'm good man, I will give you a call after the show," Wilkins casually replied, trying to get back on track.

Wilkins then steered the conversation to Geldof's friendship with Sir Richard Branson and why he wouldn't be a passenger on Virgin Galactic.

"Branson came up to me and said 'Why aren't you coming with me to space?'" Geldof said.

"I said, 'Dude your $680,000 pounds a ticket.'"

But Wilkins cheekily mentioned his mate could easily afford it.

"He's got the cash, he's pretty loaded," Wilkins laughed.
