Four-metre python launches from garage door at unsuspecting mum

There are a whole heap of home security options Aussie households use to keep their property safe, but one Queensland family's is hard to beat.

Living in the sunshine state, particularly Currumbin Waters, snakes are just a part of everyday life for Rachel Jolley and her family.

But when a four-metre python launched at the British native as she rolled up her garage door, she was admittedly terrified.

"We are used to them, but oh yeah, it really did scare me," she told Today.

And while most people would call in the snake catchers to come and retrieve a snake that big, Rachel admitted this one has been living with her for a while now.

"It's still resting in the garage, it's always here - but obviously I didn't expect that," she said.

"He's been here for years, but every time we see him he's bigger and bigger.

"We do have a lot of possums, so as soon as the possums go quiet, you know, the snake's back."

With the warm weather well and truly upon us, Australia is in peak snake breeding season and sightings around the home are on the rise.

But if sharing your house with one is an issue, experts warn not to try and remove it yourself, but rather call your local snake catcher to safely relocate it.
