Prince Harry's return to UK in doubt as rifts with Royal Family deepen

Rifts within the Royal Family have deepened, with one expert saying Palace aides are at a loss as to how to manage Prince Harry's return to the UK in July.

The fallout comes in response to the Duke of Sussex's candid documentary series with talk-show Queen Oprah.

In The Me You Can't See, the Duke of Sussex shed more light on his mental health struggles and appeared to criticise his father's Prince Charles' parenting.

"My father used to say when I was younger, he used to say to William and I, 'well it was like that for me so it's going to be like that for you'. That doesn't make sense," Prince Harry said.

"Just because you suffered it doesn't mean your kids have to ­suffer. In fact, it's the opposite."

ITV News royal editor Chris Ship told Today it's going to be "very difficult" for Prince Charles and Harry to repair their relationship and claimed the Queen is deeply upset by her grandson's criticism.

Ship said royal aides have reached a point where don't know how to manage the fractured relationships.

"The last conversation I had with Palace aides, they still don't know quite how they are going to manage this," he said referring to Harry's planned visit to the UK in July.

"They haven't worked out how they are going to manage the two brothers here but also Harry coming back to the UK after throwing yesterday more shade, if you like, at his family."

Ship said Harry's docuseries was "staggering" as the former royal spoke so candidly about his own mental health.

"Harry has let the cameras in to see him having mental health therapy, which in itself is quite remarkable," he said.

"But also, yet again he has criticised his father for not supporting him when he was younger against all the sort of press intrusion that was coming his way.

"We often talk about the brotherly rift between Harry and William but yet again Harry has exposed the rift between him and his father Prince Charles."

Ship added that Harry's claims have been met with stoicism by the Queen.

"She is having to deal with a lot of dirty laundry, shall we say, being aired in the public domain by members of her family," he said.

"That is a pretty tough thing to be doing at the age that she is now of 95.

"Everything that Harry said about his brother and about his father, I mean that must, for her, be very difficult. But as ever, as we kind of expect from the Queen, she is good at getting on with the job.

"For the Queen, I think a lot of people have a great deal of sympathy for her, given everything Harry keeps saying be it in podcast or in the series."
