NFL star and homegrown boy Michael Dickson is back on home soil after his triumphant win with the Seattle Seahawks at Super Bowl LX.

Being only the second Aussie to play for an NFL team and win a Super Bowl, the 30-year-old from Kirrawee has been hailed a national hero.

But as impressive as his on-field prowess was when the Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29 - 13, the punter told Today hosts, Karl and Sarah, it was actually his training at the Sydney Swans AFL academy that helped prepare him for that triumph.

"Rewatching the game, I could see we were pretty comfortably going to win, but in the moment it doesn't feel like it's real until that final whistle goes," he said.

"The two weeks leading up, it takes a lot of discipline to make sure your mind is in the right space, but once warm-up started, once the game started, I felt pretty good because I had my routine so I just kind of stuck to that."

Dickson is currently rated the best punter in the NFL, and he said the Swans academy helped him be able to handle that type of attention from early on.

"The Swans academy helped me know how to be a pro at such a young age and that helped me with my transition into college football and into the league," he said.
