Aussie record set to be broken as hundreds of Marilyn Monroe lookalikes gather in California
Hundreds of Marilyn Monroe lookalikes have gathered in Palm Springs, California, to try and beat a record set by Australians.
To celebrate what would have been the American icon's 100th birthday, they have dressed in white dresses and sunglasses and donned blonde wigs on a hot day on the US West Coast, as they attempt set to break a record set in South Australia in 2020.
Six years ago 254 people took part in the Brighton Jetty Classic, a large open water swim, decked out in outfits paying tribute to the star.

However, there is a good chance that record will be broken in the Californian sun, with organisers hoping up to 500 people would show up.
For a $75 registration fee, patrons received all the pieces of the outfit, including the platinum blonde wig, as well as a martini glass to complete the look.
Revellers sang and danced, with a huge Marilyn Monroe statue acting as the centrepiece of the event.
Funds raised from the event will go towards Greater Palm Springs Pride, a non-profit dedicated to promoting LGBTQ rights.

In order to be eligible to complete the record, the group needs to take a photo together, which was expected to happen at about 4.30pm (Palm Springs time).
Marilyn Monroe remains an icon in pop culture, having been a famous model and movie star in the 1950s and 1960s.
However, she died of a suspected overdose on August 4, 1962 at the age of just 36.
Her death was later ruled an apparent suicide.
