Aussie tradie 'saving marriages' with Christmas gift lifeline

It is the one task every mum and dad dreads around this time of year - assembling the kids' Christmas gifts.

But while it can be a nightmare trying to decipher flatpack instructions, one smart Aussie tradie is "saving marriages" by offering a pre-assembly service on Airtasker.

Patrick told Today his specialty is trampolines, but he can whip up a swing set, cubby house and any type of furniture in no time as well.

And while he offers his handy man services all year round, Patrick can make some serious cash around the Christmas period.

"It is obviously a bit more dearer towards the pointy end of the year, but it could be anywhere from $130 to $250 I would say approximately," he said.

He said, more often than not, the parents have at least tried to assemble it themselves, so he will give them credit where credit is due.

"But I usually see five hours in, they are drenched with sweat and I come and fix it in 15 minutes," he said.

"They are quite relieved but quite annoyed about why they didn't call me in the first place."

And while it may sound like a joke that Patrick is "saving marriages" by coming to the rescue, he said there have been occasions where it really did seem that way.

"There was one I can think of in particular, it was about 11pm on Christmas Eve and I think I might have actually really helped their marriage at that point," he laughed.
