Taylor rules out merger with ‘one person show’ One Nation
Angus Taylor has defended his dig at One Nation, after using his Liberal Party convention address to call Pauline Hanson’s party a “one-person show”.
This is despite a third of Australians preferring One Nation over the Liberals, according to the latest polling.

“The reality is they are a one-person show, but we also recognise that there are a lot of reasons why people are angry right now,” Taylor told Today.
“We have an economy that’s heading in the wrong direction, we’ve had the biggest hit to our standard of living of any developed country, we saw what we saw back at Bondi late last year... this country is heading in the wrong direction, people are angry and they are grieving for an Australia they want to see and are not seeing... we absolutely recognise that.”
Taylor said Australia needs a strong plan and direction and a strong team to fix the aforementioned issues.
“We do understand that grievance and anger, it’s real, but I don’t think that One Nation provides the answers,” he said.
“It is a one-person show, it’s always been a one-person show and it always will be a one-person show.”
With questions around whether Anthony Albanese will be re-elected as prime minister, Nine chief political editor and acting Today host, Charles Croucher, asked his guest whether a potential coalition between the Liberals, Nationals and One Nation would be considered to lock in a win.
“We’ve got no plan for that, we want to win the next election... it’s still a couple of years away, a long way away - but we’ve got no plan to enter into a coalition with One Nation,” he said.
“Our plan is to win outright, our plan is to have a strong direction, lower taxes, lower energy costs, more houses, immigration levels, cap based on housing supply, putting Australians first... that’s how we’ll win the next election with that plan and with a strong team.”
