Police are hunting for an arsonist responsible for three blazes on the Sunshine Coast.

The fires destroyed two garages at Caloundra - one at a house and the second at a motel close by.

The third blaze was lit outside the garage of a home at nearby Moffat Beach.

The first fire broke out about 1.30am (AEST), where police found a sock had been stuffed into the security screen of the Caloundra property and set alight.

A metal frame prevented the fire from taking hold in the house, but the property's garage was destroyed and a car was damaged.

While officers were at the scene they noticed the second fire in an empty garage at a nearby motel. It was destroyed.

The third fire at Moffat Beach happened about 2.15am (AEST), when property outside the garage door of a home was set on fire.

Police say it's lucky no one was injured in the blazes, and the Caloundra criminal investigation branch has been tasked with hunting down those responsible.

Officers have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour to contact them.
