'Just horrific': Three injured as car smashes into community centre

A driver lost control of her car and crashed through the wall of an Adelaide community centre this afternoon, narrowly missing a gathering of locals.

The Toyota smashed into the Kilburn Community Centre on Gladstone Avenue at about noon.

Volunteer Jacky Muir, who was arriving for a karaoke session and was in the room when the crash occurred, and said it was "just horrific".

"Everything was just falling down on top of everybody and I just heard the two ladies in the corner screaming, she said.

"The noise, the bang, I thought the car was going to keep coming as I was standing there but it didn't."

Emergency services treated the car's 49-year-old driver for leg fractures before transferring her to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. 

Two others suffered minor injuries.

The Port Enfield Council, which manages the centre, is supporting those affected.

The extensive damage to the building includes shattered glass, insulation, a collapsed ceiling, and damaged bricks and windows.

Police are investigating.
