THE MARGINAL SEATS THAT GO TO GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY

EDEN-MONARO (NSW, Liberal 2.6pc): Regarded as the country's ultimate bellwether seat. The southern NSW regional seat has been held by the winning side in every election since 1972.

PETRIE (QLD, LNP 0.5pc): The northeastern Brisbane suburban seat - and the coalition's most marginal hold - has been won by the election victors since 1987.

LINDSAY (NSW, Liberal 4pc): The outer western Sydney seat has been a government seat since its creation in 1984.

PAGE (NSW, Nationals 3.1pc): The Grafton-based electorate on the NSW north coast has been in government hands since 1990.

ROBERTSON (NSW, Liberal 3.2pc): Has gone with government since 1983, even with a badly-behaved MP like Labor's Belinda Neal.
