Warning after pharmacist-grade medication was sold without child-lock

An urgent safety warning has been issued after a popular type of medication was sold to the public without a child-lock.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) warned APOHEALTH Paracetmol Pain Relief 500 mg film-coated tablets were sold to some consumers at pharmacies or online stores across the country.

The product comes in a small bottle and has the statement: 'For dispensing only. Not for patient supply' on the label.

"The TGA has become aware that some bottles of paracetamol intended only for pharmacist use may have been supplied directly to consumers," the TGA warning said.

"As these packs were not intended for direct supply, they do not have child-resistant packaging."

The product has the batch number AUST R 230262.

"Consumers who may have bought the product should check if they have it and, if so, ensure it is kept out of reach of children," the TGA warning said.

"There is a potential risk for an accidental overdose should a child be able to access the medicine in the original container."

Consumers can return the product to the place of purchase for advice.

A separate product, APOHEALTH Paracetamol Pain Relief paracetamol 500 mg film coated tablets with the batch number AUST R 230261 in blister packaging is not affected and is intended to be supplied directly to consumers.
