Terminally ill US man knits thousands of hats for homeless people

A 91-year-old terminally ill man has knitted thousands of hats for homeless people in Michigan in the United States.

Morrie Boogart ,91 is currently in hospice care with skin cancer and a mass on his kidney, FOX 17 reported.

Despite being bed-ridden, Mr Boogart keeps busy by knitting hats for local homeless people.

"The only time I'm not doing it is if I fall asleep," he said.

The Michigan local has handcrafted more than 8000 hats over the last 15 years.

“I do it awfully slow, it maybe takes me two days to make a hat,” Mr Boogart said.

Boxes of his handcrafted hats are delivered to homeless shelters throughout the city of Grand Rapids in West Michigan.

"The hats have a rim around the edge to cover their ears and keep them nice and warm," Mr Boogart said.

When asked by FOX 17 why he was so committed to helping others, Mr Boogart had a simple reply:

"It just makes me feel good”.
