Teen has foot amputated after crash near Blue Mountains

A teenage boy has had his foot amputated after a car rolled several times when it hit a traffic sign west of Sydney.

The 17-year-old was in a car travelling near Lithgow in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 44-year-old woman was driving and two other teenage boys were passengers.

Police say the car failed to negotiate a right bend, hit the traffic sign and and rolled several times.

The 17-year-old broke his leg and had his foot amputated.

He was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital with the woman, who was pinned under the car and has a suspected fractured hip and broken arm.

Both are now in a serious but stable condition.

The other teenagers are in Nepean Hospital, one suffering internal injuries after being tossed from the car.
