Tas police shooting victim named

Police have released the name of a Tasmanian man who died from injuries after being shot by an officer in the state's northwest.

Robert Edward McInerney, 48, of Cooee near Burnie, died in hospital on Wednesday morning after being shot on Tuesday night by a plain-clothed constable who attended his address after police received a threatening phone call.

The matter is being investigated by the coroner and an internal police branch, with senior officers saying their experienced colleague took appropriate action after Mr McInerney ran at him while armed with knives.
