A bushfire burning in northwest Tasmania for more than a month has been downgraded and is no longer categorised at alert level.

The 63,000-hectare blaze at Mawbanna started on January 14 as one of about 70 fires sparked by a series of dry lightning strikes, but on Wednesday the Tasmania Fire Service said it had not increased in size in recent days and no longer posed an immediate threat.

"Crews are working on containment lines to the east and consolidating containment lines on the north and west boundaries," reports the TFS website, which still lists scores of fires across the state.
