Rape accused to appear in Tas court

A man will face a Launceston court charged with the rape of an elderly woman.

The 18-year-old West Launceston man returned to Launceston on Thursday following an extradition hearing in Victoria, where he was apprehended.

Detectives on Thursday night charged the man with rape and aggravated burglary.

They allege he entered the West Launceston home of a woman aged in her 70s about 1.40am on July 29 and assaulted her.

He will appear in the Launceston Court of Petty Sessions on Friday.
