Greyhound adoption centre for Tasmania

Tasracing has announced plans for a purpose-built greyhound adoption centre as it seeks to find favour with the community to keep the industry alive.

The Tasmanian government said it would not automatically follow plans by NSW and the ACT to ban the sport and is awaiting feedback from a parliamentary committee into the industry before commenting further on its future.

The proposed centre would include appropriate administration and caretaker facilities, and a meet-and-greet area for prospective foster carers and adopters, Tasracing boss Eliot Forbes said, adding that adoptions in Tasmania increased by 35 per cent in the 2015/16 financial year.
