Funds for heritage area hits zero: Greens

The Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area is the target of decreasing federal funding, the state Greens say, citing budget projections for 2018-19 and beyond which allocate no money for management.

"More funding, not less is needed for the management of this area," party leader Cassy O'Connor told state parliament on Wednesday when asking the Liberal administration if they will lobby for the money to be reinstated.

But Parks Minister Matthew Groom said the Commonwealth has made a "strong, ongoing commitment" to the world heritage area with $8.7 million over forward estimates.
