Flood inquiry needed: Labor

Federal Labor MPs have joined Tasmanian farmers calling on the state government to launch an independent inquiry into the cause of floods which devastated swathes of agricultural land.

Heavy rain led to floodwaters reaching a peak across northern and central Tasmania on June 6, and newly elected Labor MP Justine Keay on Monday met with farmers who are citing irreparable damage, and want to know if there are any contributing factors including cloud seeding or the construction of state owned infrastructure.

"The findings and recommendations from an inquiry would place both state and Commonwealth representatives in a much better position to lobby the Commonwealth for greater support in dealing with future events," Ms Keay said in a statement.
