Sylvia Jeffreys gives the inside scoop on her engagement to Peter Stefanovic

TODAY newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys has returned to work today, after her colleague and partner Peter Stefanovic surprised her with a marriage proposal on a European holiday.

She debuted her sparkling diamond encrusted engagement ring, crafted by Sydney’s Nader Jewellers, on the TODAY Show.

"Thank you to Patrick Nader and thank you to Pete!" Jeffreys said.

"Because it's exquisite, and I can't believe that it's on my finger.

"I would have accepted a burger ring from Pete, and it would have been a yes."

The couple took to Instagram last week to share the news of their engagement.

Speaking to TODAY host Lisa Wilkinson, Jeffreys revealed the jeweller had scoured her social media accounts examine the structure of her fingers and the kind of jewellery she wears, so that her fiancé did not have to ruin the surprise.

"[It was] completely by surprise to be honest! He got me alright," Ms Jeffreys said.

"We were in France, which has always – and now more than ever – held a special place in our hearts.

"Thank goodness he didn't propose to me at the Euro 2016 [football] game.

"It would have been a rejection, I think!"
