Sydney teenager charged over terror offences had 'instructions to make improvised bomb': court

An 18-year-old Sydney man has been charged with three counts of collecting documents likely to facilitate terrorists acts, including possible instructions to build a bomb.

Sameh Bayda, of Guildford, was arrested late yesterday by the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team and has been refused bail, ABC news reports.

At an appearance in Parramatta Court today, police alleged Bayda collected images of documents in December and January likely to be used for a terrorist attack.

Officers alleged one of the documents contained instructions, written in Arabic, on how to make an improvised explosive device.

Another document reportedly published by terrorist group Al Qaeda included directions on how to carry out a terrorist act, while yet another document allegedly detailed how to carry out a stabbing.

Police seized a number of items when the man was subjected to a Firearm Prohibition Order on January 13.

The order generally prohibits a person from possessing or using a firearm or ammunition and can also prohibit them from being in the company of people who possess firearms or living somewhere firearms are kept.

The matter is due to return to court on February 2.
