Sydney commuters warned of peak-hour train delays amid rail strike

Sydney commuters are warned of more train delays during peak-hour tonight as transport workers strike over an ongoing industrial dispute.

Some trains are not running tonight while other services are slower and less frequent.

Transport for NSW said the T3 Bankstown service has been one of the worst-hit services today.

Buses are replacing trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe for commuters on that line.

Services will remain between Liverpool and the Sydney CBD on that line, but at a reduced frequency.

Transport for NSW warns of reduced services on some suburban lines, with trains operating just every 30 minutes.

"Significant delays are expected on Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services," the authority said.

"Trains will run to a reduced timetable and some services will be cancelled."

And some routes on the NSW South Coast will have no trains today.

Instead buses will run from Port Kembla to Wollongong, Wollongong to Thirroul and Wollongong to Kiama.

Today's strike is the latest in a wave of industrial action by the Rail, Tram and Bus Union.

The union is demanding a wage rise, an end to privatisation and improved safety standards.

Rail drivers are also refusing to work on overseas-made trains on the Sydney network.

Today's industrial action follows last week's strikes by bus drivers across New South Wales.
