Sydney Harbour Bridge reopened after injured man found lying on road

The Sydney Harbour Bridge has reopened after the discovery of an injured man shut down southbound lanes.

At 4.40am today, police found the injured man lying on the road under the High Street overpass at North Sydney.

Police blocked off two of four southbound lanes on the Warringah Freeway, which reopened about 8am.

Forensics were on scene taking photographs this morning and are trying to work out how the man ended up on the road.

It is understood he may have fallen from the overpass or been a pedestrian on the road and was hit when he attempted to cross the road.

The man was treated at the scene for serious head injuries and has been conveyed to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious condition.

Motorists are urged to approach the area with caution as emergency services remain in the area.
