Smoke warning as 80 firefighters tackle major rubbish blaze in Sydney
Thousands of residents living downwind from a fire in Sydney have been told to close their windows and doors as 80 firefighters battle the blaze at a waste facility.
Two firefighters have been treated for heat exhaustion at the rubbish fire in Artarmon on the city's North Shore which started this afternoon.
Smoke has spread across the city even towards Sydney Airport from the fire in an industrial area in Lanceley Place, just off the Pacific Highway.

Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Steve Brown said crews are battling "intense heat and almost zero visibility".
"Two firefighters have been treated by ambulance for heat exhaustion with one being transported to Royal North Shore Hospital," he said.
"Smoke has increased and as a result an emergency warning has been issued advising downwind residents to stay inside and shut doors, windows and vents."

Firefighters are now tackling the fire from above using aerial ladders.
Images show the thick cloud of smoke spreading across large parts of Sydney tonight.
The smell of the fire has been reported as far away as Alexandria.
