Two homes destroyed by fire on Hawkesbury River

Two houses have been lost and a third damaged in a fire on the Hawkesbury River, north of Sydney.

Emergency services were called in the early hours of the morning to Bar Point, an isolated waterside community on the northern bank of the river.

Marine Rescue NSW said two of its boats were called at 1.45am to go to "a number of houses on fire at Bar Point."

The organisation posted on Facebook: "Thankfully all are safe and well however two houses were lost. Marine Rescue crews have been stood down as of 7am."

It is not known yet what caused the fire.
