WA surfer returns to the waves after losing two limbs to shark attack

A great white shark claimed his left arm and right wrist, and almost his life - but getting by with a little help from some friends has seen Western Australian surfer Sean Pollard return to the water.

The 24-year-old, who was attacked by two sharks at Wylie Bay near Esperance on October 2 last year, has returned to the waves with the help of two homemade, prosthetic paddles, fitted to his arms.

But the former electrician says he is still haunted by the attack, and had battled periods of depression, a year on.

"I spun around, to try and face it. It just moved so quick. I didn’t even see its teeth. It took me across, and its eye was right there in front of me, the blackest black I’ve ever seen," he told 60 Minutes reporter Michael Usher.

"It started shaking, had both my arms in its mouth, took me under water, I remember having to hold my breath."
