Students invent robotic arm to rescue dog trapped in Turkish well

A dog has been rescued after spending 10 days trapped down a narrow but deep well in Turkey.

Fire crews wrangled the pup out of the 61-metre deep, 30 centimetre-wide well in the Beykoz Dereseki neighbourhood, on Monday, Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyesi reports.

Crews used underwater cameras and devices to keep an eye on the dog, named Kuyu, even installing a heating system to ensure the animal was not affected by cold weather.

Students from Bahçeehir Science and Technology High School developed a robot arm which was instrumental in Kuyu’s rescue, according to Hurriyet Daily News.

Authorities worked with the robotic arm in the early hours of Wednesday morning to save the Kuyu, using various instruments to pry him out.

Loud cheers were heard from the crowd as Kuyu was brought up into the open air.

Pictures taken shortly after the rescue show emergency services providing him with fresh oxygen.

The dog was taken to a vet for a health check after the rescue before being adopted by the Beykoz Fire Crew.
