Driver charged after community leader killed in western Sydney crash
A man will face court today after a beloved community leader was killed in a car crash in St Mary's on Tuesday.
Father-of-seven Lual Awan was on his way to work early on Tuesday morning when a disqualified driver allegedly slammed into the back of his Toyota on the Great Western Highway in St Mary's, killing him instantly.
Police declared the crash a critical incident as they had seen a dark grey Holden Insignia accelerate away from police on Putland Street at 4am.

Police allege the 43-year-old driver of the Holden, had accelerated towards the Great Western Highway, before allegedly crashing into Awan.
The driver allegedly fled the scene on foot following the crash but was arrested shortly after on Chapel Street in St Mary's.
He was taken to Nepean Hospital under police guard, where he stayed until 6pm yesterday, when he was released and taken to St Mary's Police Station.

He was charged with a number of offences including dangerous driving causing death, negligent driving and reckless driving among other charges.
He was refused bail and will appear in Mt Druitt Local Court today.
