Southwest Western Australia to be slammed by 90km/h winds early tomorrow, with fears homes could be damaged

Violent winds of up to 90km/h are set to batter parts of southwest Western Australia early tomorrow, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning the wild weather could damage buildings.

A strong high pressure system, combined with a deepening trough, will whip up the damaging winds from about 1am through to 9am, according to the BoM.

Meteorologists are predicting winds of up to 90km/h for the area between Moora and Bridgetown, including the Perth Hills and foothills.

This does not include Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton and Bridgetown, a BoM statement said.

Emergency services are on standby with fears the violent winds could cause significant property damage.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:

• Store or weigh down loose objects such as outdoor furniture.

• Have an emergency kit with a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit.

• Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area.

• Move vehicles under cover.

• Boat owners should securely moor their boats.

• Campers should find shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
