A Victorian snake catcher has warned people to be on the lookout as warm weather and breeding season bring snakes out into the open.

"Today was a massive day with 25 jobs attended," Wyndham Vale-based Stewy the Snake Catcher wrote on his Facebook page.

He said breeding season was in "full swing" and snakes were "out in force".

"With the weather nice and sunny the conditions are absolutely perfect for snakes," he said.

"As the temperature hits over 25-30 degrees, snakes will start looking for shade throughout the hottest part of the day, and will become more active throughout the evenings."

He reminded people that snakes were also out after dark, and could be encountered on walks.

"If you hear your dog barking, please go out and check what they are barking at," he said.

"If it's a snake, bring your dog inside to make sure they are safe."

Anybody who suspected their dog had been bitten should immediately take them to the vet, he said.

"Call the clinic prior to your arrival so that they can be prepared," he said.

"The quicker the dog receives treatment, the better chance of survival."

People are also reminded to contact a professional snake catcher to remove any unwanted snakes around their home.
