Rapper Chris Brown has come under fire for tweeting that the Ebola epidemic sweeping West Africa is a "form of population control".

The 25-year-old Don't Wake Me Up singer and former boyfriend to Rihanna was criticised for his online commentary about the deadly virus.

"I don't know ... But I think this Ebola epidemic is a form of population control," he said.

"S**t is getting crazy bruh."

His comments were retweeted more than 10,000 times by his 13.6 million Twitter followers.

It didn't take long before he had tweeted in response to the flurry of criticism.

"Let me shut my black a** up!"
