The Big Issue unites political rivals
Staunch political rivals Bill Shorten and Victorian Liberal leader Matthew Guy have found one thing they can agree on - The Big Issue.
Dressed in a fluro vest, the federal Labor leader had an unlikely customer while selling the not-for-profit magazine in Melbourne on Thursday morning.
On his way to parliament, Victoria's state opposition leader stopped and purchased a magazine from his federal counterpart.
"The people you bump into in the street," Mr Guy told reporters as he handed over the $6 payment.
"From one opposition leader to another," he said.
In 15 minutes, Mr Shorten sold 22 copies of the magazine which is usually sold by, and is a source of income for, the homeless or those living rough.
Mr Shorten was selling the magazine as part of International Street Paper Vendor Week.
