Shorten takes aim at Fitzy and Abbott in rap battle

The head of Australia’s Labor Party has proven there’s more to him than debate and legislation, rapping up a storm on breakfast radio this morning.

Labor Leader Bill Shorten faced off with Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald  in a battle on Nova 96.9’s breakfast show Fitzy and Wippa, to the beat of 50 Cent’s hit ‘In Da Club’.

In true rap battle spirit Mr Shorten took his chance at the microphone to roast his peers, taking aim at Fitzgerald’s former AFL team and even his colleague Tony Abbott’s stance on same-sex marriage.

“I’m Bill Shorten I’m head of my pack,” he kicks off.

“The Sydney Swans gave Fitzy the sack.

“Wippa’s not bad but just a waste of my time, you boys will be crying by the end of my rhyme.

“Will I rap again, it’s anyone’s guess, but there’s more chance of Tony Abbott voting ‘yes’”.

Fitzgerald responded by reminding Shorten that his wife Chloe “is great”, but added: “let’s be honest, you’re punching above your weight”.

Halfway through the battle Fitzgerald dropped a bomb, introducing radio personality Ray Hadley, who walked into the studio wearing a basketball jersey, backwards baseball cap and a gold chain.

He weighed in on the battle by teasing Shorten about his authority in his own party: “Should I be talking to you or Anthony Albanese?”

The rap battle comes just a day after Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull attempted to rap on The Project.
